Zoning can provide optimum comfort with increased energy savings in your home by dividing a home into areas with similar heating and cooling needs and independently controlling the temperature in each area. Much like multiple light switches that independently control lighting in different rooms, with zoning, multiple zone thermostats or sensors control the temperature in different areas of the home.

A zoning system enables the system to direct air to different areas of the home resulting in the creation of comfort zones that are customizable for each room or “zone”. This keeps all of the family members comfortable while saving money on energy bills at the same time.  Instead of sending the same amount of heated or cooled air into each and every room when the furnace or air conditioner is running, multiple thermostats allow the system to send conditioned air specifically to the zones that need heating or air-conditioning.

This is accomplished by installing a thermostat in each area, a zone control panel, and a damper in the duct that runs to each area. This helps the areas that may have lots of windows or a second-floor area that ends up being a drastically different temperature than the rest of the home.
